Xcelerate into the Future - Are Your Jacks Ready?
Not all jacks are created equal, with that being said. . . knowing what performance is needed and what applications are going to be utilized is critical to making the right jack choice. The Xcelerator™ jack family is an industry innovator, with several significant first in class advancements; the first ETL third party Category 6 component tested, first to qualify compliance with IEEE and backed by Hubbell Premise Wiring's comprehensive 25-year MISSION CRITICAL® Warranty Assurance Program. The following information addresses the critical areas of design, performance, quality materials and installation ease to assist in future proofing your network.
With the ratification of IEEE 802.3af DTE Power (Data Terminal Equipment) over Media Dependent Interface (MDI) standard, also referred to as Power over Ethernet (PoE), VoIP systems, IP cameras, and wireless access points are fast becoming commonplace devices deployed by enterprises. It is important that specifiers and installers must adjust their selection criteria when specifying jacks and structured cabling connectivity to ensure that the system is capable of Xcelerating into the future.
In the past, specification criteria for jacks has focused on transmission performance, installation ease, termination reliability and durability, with the emphasis on transmission performance. These remain important considerations for selecting and specifying jacks; however, with the PoE standard in place, and remote devices (sensors, security, etc.) receiving power through the structured cabling system, it is important to add a new consideration . . . the ability of the connecting hardware to support continuous power. Hubbell Premise Wiring has taken this new requirement into account in the design and testing of our Xcelerator jack family.
Product Design
The IEEE 802.3af states that up to 350 mA can be continuously supplied over two pair of the structured cabling system. Hubbell’s connectivity systems have been designed to provide a reliable connection that will withstand continuous current.
